PARLIAMENTARY DEFENCE COMMITTEE DIRECTS POLICE CID TO INVESTIGATE NIRA
The Parliamentary defence committee has directed police CID attached to parliament to investigate the executive director National Identification Regulatory Authority, NIRA Judith Obitre-Gama over allegations of torture of employees and abuse of office.
The call for investigations comes barely two days after the chairperson of the board Peter Kasenene tendered in his resignation with the board secretary and director legal Affairs Edin Ediona following suit
The defence committee chaired by Judith Nabakooba also wants CID to ascertain the process under which Obitire used her powers to appoint new members without authorisation from ministry of public service.
Other critical issues the committee has directed the police CID attached to parliament to investigate, was on the recently concluded national learners verification exercise where it is said that though NIRA covered 70 percent of the exercise, they were requesting for a additional money to clear to enrollment officers without tabling the receipts of the previous officers who according to insiders were paid on mobile money with different figures.
During a heated meeting, Sarah Nakawunde (Woman Mp Mpigi district) accused Obitre of dishonesty.
“The lady herself is not honest as everything is in her briefcase and the way she carrying out her duties. She is the executive director, financial manager, director she is everything,” Nakawunde said.
